There was no Young Thug before Young Thug. The introductory interview at The Fader Ford shows that he is a surprisingly soft-spoken young man and it gives you all the more reason to care about him. We are able to see who he really is and understand him. The mixtape has become a bridge for white youth to enjoy the art of the black inner city and empathize with the likes of Thugger and that is what is so wonderful about art. It allows you to better understand the perspective and emotions of Jeffrey Lamar Williams.

His mixtape, Barter 6, is an extremely introspective and personal record. Young Thug obviously isn't a Kendrick/Drake type of rapper with outstanding rapping ability but he still manages to make better music than them. His voice and his sounds are something that no one else is doing. They are there just to complement the music, they are an application of the voice as an instrument rather than a medium for verbal communication and storytelling. He wants you to look beyond just the lyrics. Young Thug, from the beginning, has always pushed boundaries and has continued to make progressive music that others could only hope to imitate. He is a melodic genius, his beats are experimental, innovative, unique, he isn't afraid to experiment, he is constantly evolving and changing his style. Thugger is singlehandedly one of the most innovative and unique rap artists of this decade. He is not someone that is being controlled by a record label. He is not just another manufactured rap star, he is a complete artist. You could even say he's the Frank Zappa of our generation. Young Thug is the greatest musician alive. → More replies → More replies → More replies → More replies Same goes with Young Thug and Playboi Carti tbh, to lesser degrees.Īnd I say this as a fan of Kanye, Carti, Thug, but also punk music in general. I would never consider someone who publicly endorsed President Donald Trump, charges obscene prices for his Merch, and is a literal Billionaire, Punk in spirit or attitude. Kanye is an arena artist, and one of the biggest pop stars in the world. I prefer to consider punk as a music genre more than an attitude, because these days comparing someone like Kanye West to the DIY Punk forefathers like Bad Brains, and Fugazi, and Black Flag, feels like completely incompatible. I could assert that this is punk of him, because not even the emo/punk rappers that have gotten big, like XXX and JuiceWRLD and Lil Peep, performed on punk instrumentals like this very often. On here, the music may sound safe to you, but to me this is a trap artist singing on traditional punk instrumentation, it is something different and not the norm. I am just a valid in saying that Young Thug is continuing to demonstrate a punk sensibility like he has done in the past with his boundary pushing music, and the fact he wore a dress on an album cover, and so on. Punk as an attitude is harder to define, because it is very subjective, what you consider to be punk in spirit or attitude may be very different than I do. I am talking about punk as a music genre, and not as an attitude. We seem to be talking about punk in two different context yes.
